How to Make a Preschool Activity Learning Journal
Do you ever get to the end of the school year needing to compile samplings of your child's work but you have little desire to do so because its all a bunch of loose, scattered worksheets? Queue the preschool learning journal! This little book is so simple to make and your preschooler is going to love it! What is a learning journal? Simply, it is a book of simple, age-appropriate activities designed to help your child demonstrate their knowledge of letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and more. The best thing about this book is that you make it your own. Whatever it is you want to challenge or test your preschooler's knowledge in, you can!
Interested in making one for you and your preschooler? Let's do it!
What you need:
-
A blank sketch book (or any notebook without lines/dots)
-
Black marker
How to make it:
-
Start by deciding what type of pages you are going to create (see our list of suggestions at the bottom of this post). If there are certain letters/numbers/etc. you've been working on, use those as your inspiration. If your child struggles with certain concepts, maybe add some of them in it to challenge them. Depending on the time of year you are doing this, it is a great way to test the overall knowledge that they've developed over the last year or so of learning!
-
Once you know the themes/letters/numbers/etc. you are wanting to use, simply write down activities that will help your child showcase they know and can identify what you are wanting them to.
How to use it:
-
This type of activity is great for morning basket time or independent learning time. Your child will likely need to some assistance the first few times they do activities in this book but if you stick to a handful of the same type of activities, they'll very likely be able to do these all on their own rather quickly.
